The double shoelace phenomenon kicked off in 2024 with Miu Miu’s slim-soled New Balance 530 SL collaboration and years later, the dual-lace look is still finding its way onto new sneakers.
The latest model to take on the still-trending aesthetic is none other than Michael Jordan’s Air Jordan 3, which will soon be released in a new women’s-exclusive “Sports Renaissance” colorway. While Jordan Brand’s official theme behind the new look remains unconfirmed, it’s one of the more interesting additions to the Air Jordan 3 lineup in recent memory based on looks alone.

The upcoming Air Jordan 3 release features an Obsidian/Track Red/Chalk color combination which amounts to a near-navy blue leather upper with off-white chalk midsoles on both shoes. Color accents are doled out in asymmetrical fashion, with light blue appearing on the eyelets and heel of the left shoe and a clashing Track Red on the right.

But the mismatched colors aren’t the only details that set this pair apart from a typical Air Jordan 3 release. Unique to the Sports Renaissance style is a ruffled tongue material reminiscent of ribbing on sportswear apparel. The sneaker’s shoelaces also deviate from the norm as off-white laces are combined with two-tone matching blue and red laces on their respective sides.
While it may not always receive the same level of hype as its Air Jordan 4 successor, the Air Jordan 3 remains one of the most important — and popular — models in Jordan Brand’s vast archive. In July, it was reissued in its original True Blue colorway and in 2027, it’s expected to return in its White Cement look, sans the vintage-inspired pre-yellowing seen on 2023’s Reimagined release.
The Air Jordan 3 Retro Sports Renaissance will be released Aug. 15 in women’s, preschool and toddler sizes from Nike’s Snkrs app and select Jordan Brand retailers. Retail pricing for adult sizes is $205 and the sneaker’s style code is CK9246-400.
